You are perfect. To think anything less is as pointless as a river thinking that it’s got too many curves or that it moves too slowly or that its rapids are too rapid. Says who? You’re on a journey with no defined beginning, middle or end. There are no wrong twists and turns. There is just being. And your job is to be as you as you can be. This is why you’re here. To shy away from who you truly are would leave the world you-less. You are the only you there is and ever will be. I repeat, you are the only you there is and ever will be. Do not deny the world its one and only chance to bask in your brilliance.” ![]() This week's book of the week is by Jen Sincero. You are a Badass - How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, is a an entertaining read. This inspiring read walks you through understanding why you are the way you and helps you accepts your authentic self as well as identify ways that you can change the parts of you that are not serving you. It also inspires you to take actionable steps towards the 'awesome life' that you want for yourself. ![]() I have been a fan of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for many years. Her Ted Talk that highlights The Danger of a Single Story, is one that gripped me from the time I heard it. Although I have watched many of her talks, this is the first of her novels I have read. It certainly did not disappoint! In Americanah, we follow the life of Ifemelu, a Nigerian woman who immigrates to the United States in her college years. Adichie takes the reader through this experience that is full of the joys and challenges of love, race, and immigration in America. Ifemelu later returns to Nigeria and a special romance is rekindled, but not without the challenges that are a symptom of the many years they have spent apart. This week's read is a change of pace! Enjoy. “Lucky implies I didn’t do anything. Lucky implies something was given to me. Lucky implies that I was handed something I did not earn, that I did not work hard for. Gentle reader, may you never be lucky. I am not lucky. You know what I am? I am smart, I am talented, I take advantage of the opportunities that come my way and I work really, really hard. Don’t call me lucky. Call me a badass." ![]() I liked and admired Shonda Rhimes before this book, but she was elevated to a whole other level after this book. This week’s book is from my ‘campfire story teller titan friend.’ I love listening to her so much, that I also have this book on audio for when I need some one to one time with Shonda! In 'The Year of Yes - How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person' Shonda Rhimes Chronicles how her life changed the year that she decided to say YES. This intimate, hilarious, heartfelt book allows us to get to get to know Shonda and inspires us to say YES to changing our lives for the better.
